Jamig Cathedral Mosque

The Jamig Cathedral Mosque is the main Muslim place of worship in Yelabuga. It was built in 1992 near Chertovo Gorodishche, the site of a 10th-century Volga Bulgaria fortress. The Jamig Mosque’s minaret rises to a height of 57 meters and is visible from many parts of the city. While the mosque itself is low-rise, its dome spans 18 meters in diameter. The Jamig Mosque was built according to the design of architect Farid Galiev. The exterior is adorned with red and beige brickwork, and the minaret features tile patterns. The mosque’s interior is rather austere. Beneath the dome hangs a beautiful chandelier made of thousands of beads; it was crafted for the mosque at the Saratov Glassworks. The floor carpet was woven in the Leninabad district of Tajikistan.
